I`m reading a lot of angry and negative and hopeless sounding things from people recently diagnosed. I have been there too. I was diagnosed 16 years ago. My boyfriend and I have been together for about three years now and as long as I have known him he would get sick every few months with flu-like symptoms [fever, sore throat, chills, cold sweats]. In my 39 years I have had very few sexual partners. I have been married for 11 years and recently divorced. Those I have had unprotected sex with all had tested negative for STDs. I contracted genital herpes about a month ago. I was extremely drunk and was taken advantage of by a man who was sober. I just found out today (June 25th) that he knew he had the disease and intentionally gave it to me. About a week later my bf came to see me (he lives in WA I`m in MN) and we had unprotected sex. He was aware of what had happened. The day after he went back home I got what appeared to be a white open sore on the inside of my vaginal opening. I went to the Emergency Room where the doctor told me it did not look like Herpes but, another STD so I was tested, and treated for a potential infection. I then went to my regular doctor where she said it looks like herpes but was not acting like it. I had no pain or anything, just felt a little sore which I thought came from the fact that my boyfriend and I had some extremely vigorous sex. About 3 days after seeing my doctor I got what was clearly Herpes symptoms, I didn`t need to hear the results, I knew. Then my doctor called me to confirm, she asked why I wasn`t crying and I told her that I already knew due to some new symptoms. So, my doctor gave me a prescription and that was that. I have had only one outbreak and it`s not bad at all, I got 2 lesions and that was that, however it has lasted a long time. I told my boyfriend and he was a little upset but, he knew it was not my fault. We are still together and our relationship has never been stronger. This is the first STD I have ever contracted in my life and it wasn`t even by choice!! That virus doesn`t hurt as bad as the emotional beatings I keep giving to myself. I don`t know what to do. My boyfriend hasn`t gotten tested yet, it`s possible he may not have but, we plan on getting married and he told me hat he wants everything to stay the same. He even said that he did not want to use condoms knowing that I have this. I cannot let him do this to himself, so now that`s the battle I face.
